A key to success in most work environments is the ability to get on with and influence others.
However:
- A great deal of complex thinking goes on outside conscious awareness and guides judgements and actions
- The real power of behaviour is often misunderstood therefore undervalued
- The effect of communication and the potency of language are underestimated and the ability to influence is lessened
Why does this happen? People generally miss the telltale signs because they haven’t set up the communication correctly in the beginning, nor recognised, or understood the non-verbal cues, or influencing language people utilise every day.
So to be able to communicate effectively and influence successfully, people need to learn how to listen to language, because in conversation it is possible to hear how a person communicates, and pick up what will trigger his/her motivation or what will make him/her change his/her mind. In addition, notice the shifts in behaviour from subtle non-verbal clues that are also given.
Just ask yourself how your organisation would benefit if your personnel:
a) Were able to prevent and avoid many communication problems and move more decisively towards the company and personal goals?
b) Had communication tools that will enable them to think more consciously about what they do, giving them the opportunity to act with greater precision in their work with other people?
c) Knew how they and others get motivated or turned off, process information and make decisions?
d) Knew which environment they will work most productively in, or how they would respond in a stressful job?
What would it be like if they not only had the answers to these questions, but also are able to develop their linguistic ability, maintain their motivation, heighten their communication and influencing skills?
